Corn Mazes Provide Fresh Fall Team-Building Activities

By Haley Haddock

The weather is slowly getting colder, and the days shorter, making it even more important to get outside and soak in the last few rays of sunshine. Corn mazes are the perfect team-building activity for groups looking for a challenge outside in the crisp weather. We picked three farms that fit the bill.

Tweite’s Family Farm has been operating for more than 100 years and is poised to begin its 25th year of family farm entertainment.

From the theme park to the 12-acre corn maze and the pumpkin patch, there is fun for all at the Byron location. Owner Tom Tweite says, “not only has the Tweite Family Farm been around the longest, but also, there is nothing else really like it.”

As Tweite sees it, the corn maze is not so much about going out there to get lost; it also provides education opportunities great for team-building, such as searching for hidden clues throughout the maze.

Shafer Corn Maze opened its proverbial doors in the fall of 2006. The Shaferbased location offers its 12-acre corn maze, petting zoo, rope maze and other attractions from Aug. 31 through Nov. 3.

Group rates are available for parties larger than 20 and can be used during regular hours, or scheduled during the week Monday through Thursday. Co-owner Dana Miron says the maze works well for corporate outings because it allows employees to get outside and enjoy the fall weather.

Entering its 17th year of providing farm entertainment, Sever’s Corn Maze has quite the variety when it comes to group or employee activities.

The Shakopee-based corn maze features pumpkin blasters for launching pumpkins into the air, pig races, live music and even an exotic petting zoo with camels, snakes and kangaroos.

Many different groups have frequented the area from Fortune 500 companies to family reunions. “There is something for every age,” says Nicola Peterson, marketing manager.

And the best part: Groups of 26 or more will receive a group discount of $10 a ticket.
