For the out-of-town traveler, the same old scenery of a hotel’s fitness center can be a motivation killer, not to mention boring. For many, it’s difficult to find the time to work out and explore a new city during a short business trip, but thanks to the introduction of City Running Tours (CRT) in Minneapolis last month, it’s now possible to go for an outside jog while learning about our fair city.
Not originally from Minneapolis myself, I jumped at the chance to take a running tour through downtown. CRT offers 5K, 10K and even personalized running routes available to individuals and groups. I ran the “Cherry & Spoon 5K,” which took our group on a scenic loop down Nicollet Mall, through the iconic Minneapolis Sculpture Garden and back on Hennepin Ave. through the theatre district.
As we ran, Nate Herrington, our running guide and manager of Minneapolis’ CRT, informed us about the parks of Minneapolis, the history of the Sculpture Garden and the many theatres and museums the city has to offer. Did you know Minneapolis is home to 170 parks, over 100 theaters and more than 50 museums? All of this learning picked up in a short three mile run—and that’s only one route! Each route tours different areas of the city, providing information unique to that area along the way.
City Running Tours is available for groups or businesses at any time; give ‘em a call and CRT will work one-on-one with you to schedule a running tour for a private event or corporate group, and discounts are available for groups of four or more. Worried about speed and distance? Don’t sweat it. CRT can accommodate any pace and can adjust the length of runs to suit your group’s fitness level.
“It’s great for teambuilding and a fun way to get out on the town,” Herrington explains. “All you need is a good pair of sneakers and we will provide the rest—the water, Clif bars and knowledge about Minneapolis.”
