Now more than ever, the hospitality industry wants to open up a new world of exploration to travelers, especially those looking for a unique and expressive stay. The Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot is no exception, providing a true lifestyle hotel for the experiential traveler in downtown Minneapolis. Centrally located in the Mill District and within walking distance to US Bank Stadium, the Stone Arch Bridge, and the Guthrie Theater, the hotel is a Mecca for all things Minnesota. A stay at The Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot, is a celebration of the city.

Reflecting on the Past

With a place on the National Register of Historical Places, The Depot stands as a living, breathing monument to a fantastic era of rail travel. The old Milwaukee Road Depot was constructed in 1899 and remains one of the last long-span, truss-roofed sheds surviving in the nation. While the last train left in 1971, The Depot was left to stand as a testament to the romantic, adventurous rail days of the past. Designed by Charles Frost, the conservative building featured white marble floors with black borders, walls with cream and brown enamel brick, and a ceiling of intricately paneled oak, all of which can still be seen today.

Focusing on the Present

Guests can immerse themselves in Minneapolis both inside and outside the complex, which is actually a combination of two hotels. While staying in one of the 466 hotel rooms, visitors can enjoy a bite to eat at Milwaukee Road, focus on wellness at the state-of-the-art gym and indoor pool, or relax around the fire pit in the outdoor lounge with a locally-brewed ale or a cocktail made with fresh herbs from the garden.

Meetings can take place in one of the 12 event spaces, which offer over 67,000 square feet of gathering space, and the hotel’s central location is a perfect facilitator for meeting breaks and team-building activities. Break up a day of meetings with a long walk across the Stone Arch Bridge, where visitors can experience unparalleled views of the Minneapolis skyline. Soak up some culture with a show at the Guthrie Theater or learn more about the area’s history at Mill City Museum. Cheer on athletics at Target Field and US Bank Stadium, or venture out to explore the vibrant Riverfront District, where visitors can experience all the sights, sounds, and tastes of Minneapolis.

Looking to the Future

Over the years, The Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot has always adapted to the needs of the time and the area. Continuing that tradition today, the hotel is undergoing a multi-million dollar expansion of its event space. What once was an ice-skating rink and parking lot, will be transformed into an historically-unique banquet space in response to the growing demand for large event space. The hotel will add 24,000 square feet to one of the area’s most popular event and banquet venues, including both indoor and outdoor spaces. The expansion will feature vaulted ceilings, exposed brick and wrought-iron beams, floor-to-ceiling windows and a new catering kitchen. The project follows last year’s 110-room expansion of the Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot, and is slated to open in April 2019.
