He’s handsome, friendly and fit. But that’s not the only thing attracting hotel guests to this particular greeter. He’s furry, too.

Jack, an Australian Shepard that lives at Lone Star Court with General Manager Marcus Latner, spends his days greeting guests, supervising group activities, doing walkthroughs of the property and meeting with business associates.

Lone Star Court is an upscale, retroinspired motor court hotel located in the Domain in Austin. Guests are invited to enjoy frequent musical performances by the hotel’s outdoor fire pit or cool off in the dipping pool reminiscent of Hill Country swimming holes. And, of course, they are welcome to spend time with Jack.

“Jack is very friendly and will run up and greet the guests,” Latner says. “I am training him not to get too excited, but he likes to play. When he meets other dogs, he is very curious and will interact with any dog and try to get them to play. The great thing is how he is with kids. He is very respectful of their size and approaches cautiously.”

Born on a farm near College Station, the move to Lone Star Court’s outdoor environment and Texas Hill Country atmosphere was a natural one for Jack. In fact, Jack’s favorite spot to lounge is on a cozy padded bench outside the front office that overlooks the entire outdoor courtyard. He also loves riding in the golf cart for property tours.

“Guests tell me all the time that they love him. Many guests will play with him and even search for him to say ‘hi’ or ‘bye.’ We have received positive feedback about him in our surveys. He is a star,” Latner says. “Jack usually visits our groups and they love the distraction from their meetings. I’ve even had a couple of the groups request that Jack come visit them.” lonestarcourt.com
