McNamara’s parent company, Cushman & Wakefield/North Marq, encourages employees to take a day out of their busy schedules to volunteer. McNamara’s seven-person event staff recently took advantage of this opportunity and spent a day in January working with the Give Us Wings team on its upcoming annual gala, which was held for the sixth time at McNamara Alumni Center in April. “We were excited to share our combined strengths as event coordinators, marketers and researchers,” says Amy Leyden, director of marketing and sales at McNamara Alumni Center.

The McNamara event staff treated this service day as not only a way to thank the longtime client for holding its event at McNamara Alumni Center, but also to better understand and appreciate Give Us Wings’ work—providing better access to health care, education and business resources to those in Kenya and Uganda—in the global community.

Employees spent the morning at Give Us Wings’ office located in the Community Action Partnership building in St. Paul. “Some of our team did mailings, some of our team did calls to companies to donate to the silent and live auctions for the gala. It was a great way to fill up a morning!” says Leyden. “The McNamara team worked steadily, reaching out to businesses in local and neighboring communities. In addition, they shared with us their combined knowledge from years of experience. Three cheers for volunteers!” says Betsy Davies, program coordinator, Give Us Wings.

Executive Chef Tyler Malson knew at age 15 that cooking was for him and he never looked back. That was when a family-owned/operated restaurant in Wisconsin gave him an opportunity and he was hooked from day one.
