The ubiquitous catering company moves into the Solar Arts Building with their new event space.
A xraft-brew phenomenon was born when the so-called Surly bill passed in 2011, allowing Minnesota breweries to serve pints of beer on-site. And subsequently, a new kind of meeting and event space became readily available. The casual atmosphere is a builtin feature, but don’t be mistaken: Taprooms are a place where business gets done.
If you read hotel marketing materials as much as I do, you’ll realize that many like to say they “feel just like home.” I’ve always taken issue with that – not because I don’t love my own home – but because when I travel I want my hotel to be different. I want to experience something unique and memorable. Comfortable, yes, but exactly like what I have at home…no thanks.
I am insatiably curious and always keen to learn something new, but I find that I am surprised by the seemingly familiar more often than not. Case in point? The Palm restaurant in Philadelphia. This elegant steakhouse is tucked inside the landmark Hyatt at The Bellevue hotel. It exudes that classic steakhouse appeal – a dark wood bar, a buzzy “business is getting done here” ambience and professional male waiters sporting jackets.
With hectic schedules, work overload and maintaining a personal life, regenerating the mind and body tends to fall by the wayside. Spas with space for meetings and corporate retreats combine work with relaxation to solve that problem. The following spas provide an abundance of options and activities for both individuals and groups to enjoy.
Minneapolis just played host to the 2014 All-Star Game and not too far down the road the state will be hosting Super Bowl LII. It seems the rest of the country is catching on to something we’ve always known – that Minneapolis’ sports facilities are top-notch! But did you also know that Target Field and the new Vikings Stadium hold many great options for meeting and event space? The M+E team recently got to go behind the scenes and look at all that these venues have to offer.
On Monday, June 6, I attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the official opening of the newest Radisson location, the Radisson Blu Minneapolis. Formerly the Radisson Hotel Minneapolis, the hotel went through a multimillion-dollar transformation and now joins 250 Radisson Blu hotels worldwide and its sister property: The Radisson Blu Mall of America.
One of the phrases that my mother often utters is "kill two birds with one stone." She’s far from violent. Instead, she is highly organized and is the embodiment of a multi-tasker. Like mother, like daughter. I love nothing better than getting two things done at once and just last week I managed to do just that. I interviewed a terrific Philadelphia personality (stay tuned to read that fun interview in our fall issue) and rediscovered a terrific event space. Our interview just so happened to be a lunch meeting at Cuba Libre.
SUMMERTIME IS FINALLY HERE, and now’s your chance to show your guests how spectacular Minnesota can truly be. From the city’s rooftops to the riverfront, we’ve found outdoor venues that will give your guests a breath of fresh air and show the Twin Cities at their very best.
