20 Things You Didn’t Know About Saint Paul RiverCentre

Saint Paul RiverCentre has hosted many events you’ve probably heard of or even attended, from housing all media for the 2008 Republican National Convention to many different concerts. But what you probably didn’t know is the venue is a mecca for recycling. Let’s take a look at 20 other things you might not know about the popular event location.

 

  1. Saint Paul RiverCentre was one of the first convention centers in the country to offer free wireless Internet to its guests. The service is available throughout the facility.

     

  2. In 2011, Saint Paul RiverCentre won the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s “Wastewise Midsize Business Partner of the Year” for sustainable efforts the venue takes part in.
  3. A few sustainable measures Saint Paul RiverCentre uses include composting in public and private areas of the venue, a sustainable catering menu and two types of solar panels.
  4. Saint Paul RiverCentre offers event space with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Mississippi River, allowing for natural light and a feeling of being outdoors.
  5. Instead of having clients fax in orders to the venue, Saint Paul RiverCentre built an online exhibitor ordering system that allows clients to send orders easily and securely.
  6. The marketing staff of the RiverCentre helps clients promote their events through a marquee on Kellogg Boulevard, an event listing on the facility’s website and promotion via social media sites.
  7. Headwaters Café, located in Saint Paul RiverCentre’s lobby, is filled with natural light and offers guests coffees, breakfast, lunch, beer and wine.
  8. Every year, Saint Paul RiverCentre hosts the Starkey Hearing Foundation Gala. Some famous guests include Rudy Giuliani, former British Prime Minister John Major, Jay Leno, Elton John and more.
  9. Each year, Saint Paul RiverCentre hosts about 15 high-end fundraising galas. They’re equipped to do so with the ballroom level, red-carpet arrival options, highend catering and hardworking team.
  10. Its location near all of the major freeways in Minnesota allows guests to easily access the venue, without the stress of driving through downtown.
  11. During the winter, guests will especially love the two connected parking ramps, which allow them to drive without ever stepping foot outside.
  12. Guests will love the catering from MHC Culinary Group, which offers vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan options.
  13. If you have materials that needed to be loaded directly into Saint Paul RiverCentre, you can use the 13 bay loading dock, which even has heating lamps that come in handy during the winter months.
  14. Many U.S. Presidents have attended events at Saint Paul RiverCentre, including George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush and William J. Clinton.
  15. Over the past year, the RiverCentre has recycled 240 tons of compost, 141 tons of cardboard, 102 tons of cans and bottles, and 32 tons of construction materials.
  16. Roughly 15,000 members of the media attended the 2008 Republican National Convention at the RiverCentre.
  17. Saint Paul RiverCentre hosted the All Star FANtasy event during NHL All Star Weekend.
  18. A bronze statue of the Olympic gold medal winning American hockey coach Herb Brooks sits at the east entrance of the venue.
  19. Located within the RiverCentre, the Roy Wilkins Auditorium is home to the Minnesota RollerGirls.
  20. Many popular musicians have played at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium, including the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan and Dave Matthews Band.
