Population: 208,000

Location: The Fargo-Moorhead CVB is unique for its coverage of two cities, two counties and two states. The CVB is located on the far eastern edge of North Dakota, bordering Minnesota; 220 miles to Winnipeg, Canada; 235 miles to Minneapolis/St. Paul; 250 to Sioux Falls, S.D.; and 200 miles to Bismarck, N.D.

Transportation: Two interstates (Interstate 29 and Interstate 94), Fargo Jet Center, Hector International Airport, nine nonstop service flights, five airlines and Amtrak service.

Key Contact: Jill Gates, director of sales for the Fargo-Moorhead Convention & Visitor’s Bureau.

The Must-Sees: The downtown area boasts many original structures that have been renovated over the years. "Fargo Theatre still has a working Wurlitzer organ," says Gates. "People think that’s really cool." Rustic Oaks, an old farmstead, is also popular, along with bed-and-breakfasts, old farmhouses and a music conservatory.

The Conference Centers: "Because we don’t have a convention center, we’re ahead of the trend in people wanting unique venues," Gates says. "[Now], it’s a trend all across America, but we were doing it a little bit sooner." The Fargodome, Fargo Civic Center and Scheels Arena all work well for large groups.

Restaurants: Four hundred restaurants and lounges, 120 of which are unique to Fargo. "We have a good balance," Gates says. "We have something for everyone’s appetite."

Hotels: Holiday Inn and Ramada Plaza & Suites are both popular in the community, as well as the Courtyard by Marriott, Hilton Garden Inn and Radisson. The area boasts 50 hotels, with 10 in the works.

How the CVB Helps: "[The CVB] educates that there’s so much more than you expect here," says Gates. The bureau provides such out-of-the-ordinary services as corporate social responsibility projects for the community, sending out save-the-date cards and creating customized digital maps for groups.
