Industry Nights Out

By M+E Staff

Tis the season for venue tours, happy hours and making post-hibernation connections. Team M+E has been all over town lately and it’s been a blast to get out and spend time with industry friends.

Recently we stopped by Dick’s Last Resort at the Mall Of America for a little teambuilding. Not the tired teambuilding we’ve all done too many times but an iPad scavenger hunt/timed mission to crush our lovely coworkers by answering as many questions about the mall and taking photos along the way. It was a blast! Not only did my team taste sweet victory but we also had fun watching a recap slideshow of everyone’s photos and enjoying some post-work beverages served with a nice side of sarcasm.

Next up, our group joined the rest of the office for our annual Tiger Oak Bowl-A-Rama at Elsie’s in northeast, Minneapolis. We used Elsie’s banquet room for our office lunch and then moved into the bowling alley where they turned on the cosmic bowling effects for our group. Our office get-togethers are always a good time but there’s something extra fun when costumes contests and bowling records are on the line. I’m proud to say our publisher, Dave Musolf, won the highest score and I continued to maintain my position with the lowest score- success.

The Brave New Workshop‘s downtown theater has an event space called ETC and a few of us went to check it out at their recent Industry Neighborhood Night. They do everything from hosting meetings to getting interactive with improv games and activities. We also heard they’re working on a “Weekend Update”-inspired show perfect for corporate clients that may not be up for their mainstage show. However, if you have a group game for anything, their current production “Lance Armstrong’s Steroid-Pumped Comedy Revue: A Cheater’s Guide to Winning” is one not to miss- I’m a little biased but I loved it!

Wrapping up our M+E tour, the gang and I went Radisson Blu Mall of America. If you haven’t been, schedule a tour, their meeting and event spaces are unique and come in a variety of capacities and set ups; plus, they look really cool. I loved the focus on clean, modern design with localized touches. (See photos here!) It’s such a great option and with the announcement the Radisson Plaza Hotel Minneapolis will be getting the Blu treatment and the beautifully renovated Millenium Hotel Minneapolis open for business next month, we can’t wait to have more creative spaces to choose from!

What are you most looking forward to this season? Do you have any venues on your list to visit? Let us know and maybe we can get in for a sneak peek!
