All of Emery's plants are real and tended to daily

Standing in the Emery's lobby, where live greenery thrives and natural light streams in, it's hard to believe that this used to be Hotel Minneapolis. Emery is still an Autograph Collection hotel, like Hotel Minneapolis was, but it is, for all intents and purposes, a new, not just renovated, hotel.

Some features, like the marble columns, survived the overhaul. But the name Emery was chosen for the abrasive material of the same name; it connotes the scraping away of the old and polishing of the new.

It's day and night. That's especially, and almost literally, true for the restaurant; Hotel Minneapolis' Restaurant Max was known for its dim lighting, while windows and lighting fixtures were added to Emery's Giulia to create an on-trend atmosphere.

It's the Spyhouse Coffee bar in the lobby, though, that got me most excited to visit Minneapolis' newest hotel.

Like other Spyhouse locations, croissants and other pastries from Black Walnut Bakery are available (I can vouch for the deliciousness of the sauerkraut, caramelized onion and Gruyère croissant). But unlike other Spyhouses, beer and wine are served at night.

It's a place where you can imagine staying all day, with plenty of outlets, seating options, and food and drink available for every mealtime. And who knows, you might just want to stay the night.

D’Amico gathered together an intimate group of people to simply enjoy the things that drive the industry: a beautiful setting, delicious menu, great atmosphere and even better people. Girl Friday, Munster Rose and Linen Effects helped create an intentional space at the Calhoun Beach Club that was cozy while embracing the lush nature of the summer season.

We’ve all heard the statistics – sitting all day at work is not good for our productivity or our well-being. In fact, researchers are increasingly saying “sitting is the new smoking” when it comes to health outcomes.

Graze 4 Good, an intimate food adventure hosted by The Minneapolis Foundation’s Fourth Generation program, is slated to be held at the Lumber Exchange Event Center from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on April 14. The culinary-themed fundraiser will feature delicious food, a silent auction and the chance to socialize with some of the Twin Cities most in-demand chefs — all to address the needs of the community.
