The meetings and events industry’s best, as voted by the readers of Minnesota Meetings + Events magazine, socialized, nibbled on passed appetizers, watched sushi boats ride the luge and sipped signature drinks on April 2 at WINDOWS on Minnesota at the Marquette Hotel. Twenty-two winners and seven Hall of Fame inductees received their awards in front of a crowd of 283 people. Winners ranged from veteran to firsttimers and included: Grand View Lodge, Hilton Minneapolis, Oak Ridge Hotel & Conference Center, Aria, CRAVE West End, Meet Minneapolis, Visit Brainerd, A Touch of Magic, Graddy Photography, metroConnections, AV for You, Minnesota State Fair, Paradise Charter Cruises and Minneapolis Queen, CRAVE Catering, MPI WEC 2014, Festivities, Luna Vinca, Madden’s on Gull Lake and Premier Transportation.

Allison Fraser has been named general manager of the 826-room Hilton Minneapolis, the largest hotel in Minnesota featuring 90,000 square feet of meeting space. Mostly recently, she served as GM of Hilton Toronto Airport, leading the hotel through a multi-million-dollar renovation while also overseeing the hotel’s sister property, Hilton Garden Inn Toronto Airport.

 

Grand View Lodge, Spa and Golf Resort has been providing groups and leisure guests with memorable getaways since 1916. Located in the Brainerd Lakes Area of Minnesota, the resort’s main property is located on Gull Lake and offers various accommodation styles, eight dining venues, two championship golf courses, a par-3 golf course, indoor and outdoor pools, a spa, event and wedding facilities, and activities galore. Here are two recent staff hires of interest to the meetings and events industry.

 

For more than 100 years, the Dayton’s building has been an important piece of Minnesota’s culture and economy as the home to Dayton’s and Macy’s department stores. The department stores served as anchors for the downtown retail and business district. Now, the landmark building at 700 Nicollet in downtown Minneapolis is being reinvented for the 21st century through a $350 million historic redevelopment.
