Many of the “basics” are similar— food and beverage, flights, hotel accommodations—but the priorities are completely different. As a planner, it’s critical to adjust your approach to this unique style of event to ensure your attendees enjoy their once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Social media has drastically changed since I was in college. Thanks to Instagram, Twitter and FB, the hashtag symbol is becoming a larger topic when it comes to following, reporting and engaging with companies, friends or events. I personally love following the buzz during events that I cannot attend via hashtags. Savvy event planners can use hashtags to help our industry and business grow.
What is the ideal length for a keynote presentation? What about a breakout session at your conference? During the event planning process you are trying to fill the time, but is that the best approach?
Conference planners usually ask speakers to deliver keynotes ranging from 40-90 minutes. For breakouts, 60-90 minutes is the norm. This is such a common practice that it forces speakers to create content to fill the time, instead of offering the most impactful message possible.
