An Irishman walks into a bar … an Irish pub, no less, and discovers an opportunity to use technology as a way to engage his audience. Not funny? That’s because it’s not a joke, though the man referenced, John Cosgrove, is in fact a professional comedic emcee from Northern Ireland. He’s also the founder of VoiceHive, a web-based presentation platform for events that Cosgrove conjured up while hosting trivia events at Kieran’s Irish Pub in Minneapolis.

Philadelphia is solidfying itself as a major player to host events, booking the world’s largest trade association in 2019.

Industry Organization (BIO), which represents biotechnology companies, academic institutions, state biotechnology centers and related organizations around the world. The convention is the largest, biotech meeting in the world; the event also took place in Philly this past June.

This past fall the meetings and events team travelled to Las Vegas to participate in IMEX, an annual international trade show. We learned about and tasted whiskey from a kilted man in Scotland, snapped a group picture at the World Cup in Germany, ate empanadas from Brazil and took a virtual tour of London. On the last day, we posed the question: Based on these three days, which city or country would you visit? Between the German-style tables with giant pretzels and imported beer on tap, Munich was an easy answer.

Major Success for Global Spectrum

Global Spectrum, the facility managers of Historic Boardwalk Hall and the Atlantic City Convention Center, revealed increased progress for both venues during the organization’s first full year of management.

According to Fran Rodowicz, general manager, the company increased the amount of activity, created new affordable labor agreements, improve the technology infrastructure, raised customer service scores and more. Global Spectrum took over the facilities, owned by Casino Reinvestment Development Authority on Jan. 1, 2014.  

Detroit Zoo Offers New App

A new Detroit Zoo mobile application, available for both the iPhone and Android, helps guests plan their visit, navigate the zoo and learn more about its inhabitants. The app’s features include a map featuring clickable locations with details about each; information about upcoming zoo events; a searchable database of every animal, habitat, attraction and facility; and more.
